Sustainability has been defined as “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” 

We can achieve sustainability in three ways:

  1. Socially

  2. Ecologically 

  3. Economically

And that's the plan!


  • Green Series:  Hosting seminars and workshops to develop new cutting edge research and collaborations by students and lecturers
  • Green Ball:  Interdepartmental sporting competition to foster team work and collaborations while promoting healthy lifestyle.
  • Green Bicycles:  They represent what it means to serve and remind us that being green allows us to go to new places – to a cleaner world.
  • Education: Campuses are living laboratories. Therefore, faculties are encourage to incorporate environmental sustainability into their curriculum.
  • Media: Use of social media and other forms of paperless media to promote awareness.

2. ECOLOGICALLY: creating a natural environment

  •  Campus Design: Our member schools will be a natural environment that connotes what green stands for. We hope to maintain at least 65% of campuses landscape areas with an organic landscaping. 
  • Renewable Energy: Use of alternative and renewable sources of energy such as solar panels, biogas, biofuel etc. to reduce emissions.
  • Tree/Flower Planting: Planting of trees not just beautification and serenity but to improve the freshness of the air we breathe in. 
  • Community Based Projects:  Encouraging team work and fostering environmental sustainability by engaging students, staff and members of the community in routine environmental sanitation. 
  • Effective Waste management: Recycle wastes appropriately by types (Recycling).
  • Transportation: Promoting walking, use of bicycles and carpooling on campuses
  • Food, Health & Well-being: Advocating for the use and consumption of organic products and food. We know that a health is vital to the success of any organisation. We hope to make our campuses free of toxic chemicals by enhancing the health, productivity, and quality of life of students, staff, and the surrounding community. 

3. ECONOMICALLY: Cultivating Entrepreneurial Spirit

  •  Social Entrepreneurship: In pursuit of achieving a self-sustaining environment, the Green Institute has launched a new program called ‘green collar’ jobs. Green collar jobs are targeted towards achieving sustainable development, environmental safety, and proactive response towards global development. This program is set to critically consider ecological and environmental factors before starting up a business. Job ideas that could be harmful to the environment irrespective of the monetary profitability are discouraged even before conception. Examples of green collar jobs spans from a fitness gym to a bicycle hire shop, photography, grocery shop etc. Synchronizing our business with the interest of the planet at heart is a laudable initiative that the earth will forever be grateful for.
  • Organic Farming: Promoting locally grown foods and products from our school farms.
  • Waste Management: Generating revenue through effective waste management  
  • Community & cooperate partnership: We encourage organisations from different sectors to join our campaign.
