#KidneyCleansingWednesday

I get overly excited on Wednesdays because it is the day to do the kidney thing. As discussed earlier, the kidney is another important organ in the body that needs to be carefully maintained. It detoxifies the body and does some regulating and balancing. The kidney magician for the day is ONION.

Who would have thought about Onions? We do not pay too much attention when we find a slice in our meal, or at the most we believe that it for garnishing.

Onions are considered to be used for dressing dishes. Also, many people think that Onions are added to foods for enhancement of flavor and taste. Both statements are correct, but they are less than ten (10%) of why you should add Onions to your dishes.

Onions are loaded with so many goodies to heal different parts of the body. There is a great healing power, phytochemicals, and minerals contained in each bulb of Onion that makes it a ‘must have’ for everyone.

Onions are filled with flavonoids, particularly Quercetin. Flavonoids are natural chemicals that prevent the deposit of fatty materials in the blood vessels and add pigmentation to plants.

The thing that makes Onions Kidney friendly is that they are low in potassium; this property makes it good food, even for people with impaired kidney function.

When onions are simmered to make soup, their Quercetin does not get degraded. It simply gets transferred into the water part of the soup. By using a low-heat method for preparing onion soup, you can preserve the health benefits of Onion that is associated with this key flavonoid.

#KidneyCleansingWednesday: CABBAGE

It is that time of the week again when we give all our attention to the Kidney. Kidney cleansing Wednesday is about pampering the Kidneys, making them green and full of strength.

The Kidney magician for the day is CABBAGE.

Cabbages are cruciferous vegetables filled with phytochemicals. Phytochemicals work to break apart free radicals from the body. Many phytochemicals are believed to combat cancer and support cardiovascular health.

Cabbages are high in Vitamin K nd C; they are equally high in fibre and a good source of Vitamin B6.

The property of cabbages that makes them Kidney friendly is that they are low in potassium.

Cabbages can be consumed as a vegetable with rice and pasta dishes or raw in salads and coleslaw. It is the green Kidney day, do some honour.

#KidneyCleansingWednesday: CRANBERRIES

The significant Kidney day has come again. Most people know that a major function of the Kidney is to remove waste products and excess fluid from the body. The waste and excess fluid are removed through the urine. The Kidneys regulate the body’s salt, potassium, and acid content. The Kidney is an imperative part of the human body.

So today, introduce you CRANBERRIES, the fruit that works the magic on this Kidney Cleansing Wednesday.

Both fresh and dried cranberries can be used to give the Kidney a green treat.

Cranberries are great for the prevention of urinary tract infections because the make urine more acidic and help keep bacteria from attaching to the walls of the bladder

Cranberries have also been shown to protect against cancer and some cardiovascular disease.

Toss a cup full of cranberries in your cereal or salad and you are ready to go this Wednesday.

#KidneyCleansingWednesday: APPLE

The Kidney is another great body toxin expeller; it helps filter waste products from the blood. They are also involved in regulating blood pressure, electrolyte balance, and red blood cell production in the body. The kidneys send toxins to the bladder and these toxins get expelled in form of urination.

Kidney cleansing is very essential. When the body kidney function becomes impaired the body gets overloaded with toxins due to the fact that the kidney is not able to filter waste from the body sufficiently.

So I thought it will be nice to give the kidney a treat at least once in a whole week. It’s the least we can do for it after so much hard work. Let’s go green on the kidneys, let’s give them life, and let’s make them feel better on Wednesdays.

I will unlock a secret kidney magician every Wednesday and you can make whatever dish, salad, smoothie or juice out of it. The Kidney magician for today is APPLE.

You are probably wondering right now…..Apples?

Yes, apples. They are natural cleansers for the kidney. They are an excellent source of Vitamin C and an antioxidant- quercetin which is also tied to improved heart health and cancer prevention. They are a great source of pectin, a soluble fibre that is wonderful for diabetic’s since it slows down the rate of blood sugar and removes excess cholesterol.
